As Time Goes By...
ourowndestiny: One year ago, a great Hero left us. His name was Major Richard D. Winters. He’s one of my biggest inspirations. He died at age 92 after a battle against Parkinson’s disease. Until the end, this man will have been brave and humble. He asked to his family to hide his death. He has never declared himself as a hero. And yet, he was. (21 January 1918 - 02 January 2011). Do you remember the letter that Mike Ranney wrote me? You do? Do you remember how I ended it? “I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said: Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?” Grandpa said “no…but I served in a company of heroes…”
